Children’s book writing competition

The Women’s Literary Association proclaims the 50th competition for writing books for children. The books must be meticulously written, in good literary style so as to inspire optimism and faith in life and the plot should be related to Greek reality.

Winners will be eligible for the following awards:

The prizes for 2005 are the following:

1. PSICHOGIOS Publishing House award: 800 euro for a novel on a free subject for children of the first school grades. (Dimotiko)
2. KEDROS Publishing House award: 800 euro for a novel for children of the medium school classes on a subject dealing with their everyday life (school, friends, family) with a humoristic touch.
3. The UNESCO Association, with seat in Amaroussion, 800 euro award for a novel on a free subject but concerning culture, for children or young people.
4. Award of the Holy Metropolis of Nea Smyrni for a novel about the Lost Fatherlands of the Hellenism of Asia Minor.
5. Award of the sisters Eleni Mavroulidou-Davari and Vilma Mavroulidou-Saliverou in memory of their parents Loula and Ilias Mavroulidou and Lili Iannetsou for:
a) a detective novel euro 600
b) a theatrical play euro 500
6. MINOAS Publishing House award of 500 euro for an adventure and action novel for children 9-14 years old (30.000 – 34.000 words)
7. AKRITAS Publishing House award: 500 euro for a novel or 5 short stories referring to Byzance .
8. Award in memory of Galatia Paleologou: 500 euro. A novel about a journey in the Greek borderline.
9. Award of the club “Friends of the Museum Drosini” : 500 euro. A collection of poems for children.
10. Award in memory of Georgios Krokos: 400 euro. Three short stories for children of Nursery or first Primary School classes.
11. PATAKIS Publishing House award: 300 euro for a newspaper or magazine written by schoolchildren.

The Women’s Literary Association, on the occasion of the completion of fifty years since its foundation, establishes as from this year,

“The TATIANA STAVROU award”.

This award is only honorary. It will be awarded to authors for the entirety of their work or for their contribution to the development and promotion of the literature for children and young people.

 

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

1. Novels must have 80 – 100 pages (36 typed lines on a page, letter size 12).
2 .On the envelope of the manuscript the participant is obliged to mention which competition he is taking part in.
3. Theatrical plays must be of normal duration (at least 1 hr and 15 min.). School sketches will not be accepted.
4. The winners are obliged to submit the book to the publishing house which sponsored the prize.
5. Authors who have been awarded 3 prizes or praises by the Women’s Literary Association or have distinguished themselves for the same texts in other competitions, either in Greece or in Cyprus , are not permitted to participate.
6. Two copies of the rewarded books, when published, must be deposited to the Women’s Literary Association for their records.

Courier or recommended parcels are not accepted.

Each text should be submitted in three (3) typed copies. A pseudonym is indispensable. Along with the texts a sealed envelope containing the real name, telephone number and address of the author should be included. These envelopes will only be opened in case the participant is successful. The other participants’ names will not be revealed.

Participations which do not comply with the above regulations will not be judged.
